The Spiritual Process

Reflection on Pure Devotion

Pure Devotion is the Devotion that is detached from personal beliefs, free from preferred circumstances… Superficial Devotion is circumstantial Devotion, the Devotion that depends on external factors. In the majority of seekers this superficial Devotion is more common. Love grows intensely apparently, but it depends on the sweetness of the Guru, on the understanding and accordance with the teachings, and if all is in order in the Disciple vision then that love is enormous. In reality it doesn't matter the size or intensity of superficial Devotion, it's nothing, just dust, that will not support the journey of the seeker of Truth, only embellishes the dreams of the seeker of well being.

When Devotion is increasing eventually it will be tested in some form, usually going against the seekers beliefs, changing the circumstances that support that Devotion, changing the tone of sweetness... Superficial Devotion tends to crumble and doubts take its place, making that immense love to cool down, making the love disappear. Real Devotion withstands the tests and gets stronger after them. There's also the possibility of that superficial Devotion to transform into Real Devotion, but that's rare. Work as hard as you can strengthening your Devotion and Surrender, so that when those tests come you can take the best and enhance your growth.
