My journey in this retreat unfolded in different phases, beginning with the false illusion that—because of past experiences—it would be difficult, yet I had no idea of the true challenges I would face.

Looking into our inner chaos is never easy, but when you’ve done it before, the illusion of pride can make you think it will become easier each time. It doesn’t. It’s not easier or harder, in truth, both are just illusions.

What I learned is that in the initial pain, in facing the chaos, in the effort to quiet the body and remain in the practice, you must be humble, humble before your expectations, before the chaos, and before the process. Only then can you move through it, “connect” with it, surrender, and practice the detachment needed to reach the true calling that lies beneath.

My advice for future participants: practicing meditation before the retreat is important, but it is not everything. Come with an open heart for all experiences, and always maintain discipline.

P.S.: a special thank you to the kitchen for taking care of us with so much love and tenderness, and to all the residents as well.
